"Technology has greatly increased officer safety actually," said Union Parish Chief Deputy Bill Webb.
On Tuesday, Union Parish deputies stopped by the Union Museum of History to explain the benefits of the newest tech.
One of those tools, is the stun gun.
"I think the TASER is the best less lethal tool we have at our department. I believe it helps tremendously with officer safety and helps us not to have to use deadly force in an event we can use a less lethal one," said Sgt. Kylie Henson.
In a time where tension between the police and the public is more evident than ever, the sergeant says it's important for the public to understand the tools at their disposal.
"I think we need to speak to the public about it. Make them aware that education is everything," said Henson.
From car cameras to body cams, she says they're meant to help and hold officers accountable.
"The camera is for their safety also. If a deputy says there's something he didn't do, it can help them. So it definitely helps the public also," said Henson.
And departments across the country continue to roll out new things.
Chief Deputy Bill Webb says the newest gadget he hopes to bring to the parish, is a drone.
"Drones now can have up to three cameras on a drone, you can have just a regular camera, you can have a night vision camera and you can also have a thermal vision camera. All three of these would be very useful in locating somebody," said Webb.
Tuesday’s event is in conjunction with the museum's current exhibit, "Honoring Those Who Serve and Protect: Union Parish First Responders.”
