What if you need to report an incident or request police certificates while you're out in the sea? That won't be a problem in Dubai. Next year, the Dubai Police will have the world's first floating smart police station at The Heart of Europe on the World Islands.
A model of the floating police station was presented at the ongoing Gitex Technology Week at Dubai World Trade Centre on Wednesday, October 9, in the presence of Lt-Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Spanning over 4,000 square feet across three floors, the smart police station requires no human interaction, but it offers at least 60 online services in six languages.
A visitor will be able to report crimes and traffic incidents; get good-conduct certificates; pay fines; file labour or criminal complaints; report lost-and-found items; follow up a police report; and avail of other police and community services.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig Khalid AlRazooqi, general director of artificial intelligence at the Dubai Police, said the floating police station would open to the public in the first half of 2020.
The three levels
Brig AlRazooqi explained that the topmost level of the station will serve as the flying and landing deck for an unmanned aerial vehicle or drone that will fly around to scan the area in case an incident is reported.
The middle deck, which is at sea level, will house the main smart police station.
There is also an outdoor pool on the middle floor, while the submerged level - with its floor-to-ceiling windows - offers an uninterrupted view of marine life.
"Aside from providing police services, the floating station will also serve as a learning area to study how we can protect our marine environment," AlRazooqi said.
"The floating police station will be open to the public 24/7, and there is no need for police presence as all services are provided online. We are expecting to serve at least 15,000 residents in the area," added AlRazooqi.
